A
lot of monumental buildings around Goa were
abandoned during the plague epidemic in the
18th century and those that were situated
around Panjim were often demolished in order
to give easier access of materials to Panjim
where new houses and buildings were regularly
being constructed.
In the case of The Palace
Of Adil Shah Fort, the materials from the
fort itself were also shipped to Panjim to
be used in the construction of these buildings.
However, the gate was left standing and can
still be seen today. If you partake in an
ancient Goa tour you will see this gate as
well as many other remaining vestiges to
bygone times, An ancient Goa tour
has a lot of sites to choose from because Goa
is almost literally packed full of forts and
other historical monuments to the battle with
the Portuguese.
The Palace Of Adil Shah Fort was an incredible
building that took over the horizon as well as
the local surroundings. |
